Unity of South Sound's Annual Membership Meeting

Immediately following the Sunday Service, Our Youth and Family Ministries Team will be serving lunch on a love-offering basis. After lunch, we’ll gather in the sanctuary for our Annual Membership Meeting.

At this important meeting we will discuss general church business, review 2024 financial info, look at our 2025 budget, updated on Ministry Activities, Successes, and Vision for the Future, and voting members will be electing board members (slate of candidates below).

Notice to Members Attending Online:

Online voters: To vote during the annual meeting, please request your ballot by emailing office@unityofsouthsound.org no later than Saturday, Feb 22nd. Ballots will be emailed during the meeting, so you can vote live.

I am a North westerner who was born in Tacoma, WA where my family had deep roots. I grew up in Portland, traveled while in the Army and returned here in 1977. I have three sons with Sandy, who passed away in 2016. I have a son and daughter since my marriage to Jill. We have five grandchildren. Since Nov 2023, Unity of South Sound has been our spiritual home.

I served ten years in the U.S. Army and attained the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. I received my M.D. degree from the University of Oregon. I am a Board-Certified Neurologist. I served as Chief of Neurology at Madigan Army Medical Center 1977-1979. I had my own private practice of Neurology in Tacoma 1979-2023.

For decades I have had a great desire and quest to understand: How do people heal? How did Jesus heal? I have been blessed to be in a position to care for and help patients, family and friends. I love science and spirituality, and their merging understanding. Unity principles of Oneness, I AM, Love, Joy and Relationships are the foundations for healing. I love Unity and as a Board Member I will uphold and manifest its principles. I will work to have Unity of South Sound continue to be a welcoming loving spiritual home for our community.

I celebrate 50 years in Unity this year!!! From my beginnings with the Reverends Phil and Mary Stovin at Unity of Tacoma in 1975, I was a founding member of Unity of the Northern Lights (now known as Unity of Anchorage) in 1976.

After marrying the Reverend Jim Peterson in 1991, we together served Unity of Santa Barbara, Unity of Anchorage (twice), Unity of Centralia, Unity Church of Christianity in Federal Way (formerly this congregation), and Unity of Salt Lake on three different occasions.

UNITY is my Way of Life ~ It is My Home. I am here to love you and serve you. I am grateful to have served on your Unity Board of Directors this past year and I wish to continue serving as your Board Alternate for the next one-year term.

I have been involved with Unity for four decades now with the most recent decade here at Unity of South Sound. Throughout that time, I have served my church community in many ways including: ushering, greeting, Board service, bookkeeper and more. It was through Unity that I was inspired to return to college in the mid-eighties and earn my MBA with an emphasis in accounting. I used these skills to work as a Third Party Plan Administrator for medium size businesses throughout the Northwest. Currently retired, I enjoy my gardens and serving Unity of South Sound as our community strives to ‘Thrive in 25’ and beyond.
